Sorting it out!

Day 100

I was up early this morning again but for a good reason this time - to help with the first recycling sort since lockdown began, and to also be on Radio Northampton!

I arrived at Ruth's house at 7am to find Tom Percival from the radio station already there. There were two microphones set up in the garden and Ruth had set out a table for us to do the sorting. Gradually, the other women arrived, including Lynn, and two other members of ROAR!

We had several large bags of recycling to sort and I think Tom was a bit bemused by all the stuff that we collect and send off to Terracycle. He interviewed Ruth first and then helped us sort out all the stuff we take, which includes crisp and snack wrappers, confectionery wrappers, toothbrushes and toothpastes, pet food pouches, pens, batteries, ink cartridges and stretchy plastic that we take to Tesco.

He was amazed by the amount of sweet wrappers we had:

It was very good fun and a great distraction from my current woes! We were lucky with the weather and even though we felt the odd spit and spot of rain, it didn't cause a problem!

I was interviewed at about 7.50am and explained that I'd first started taking Tassimo pods to Milton Keynes, to a man called George who has raised thousands of pounds for his local charities. It was a bit nerve-wracking being on the radio, but it was great fun and we all had a laugh, especially when Ruth said she had "Sorter's bottom" - a painful twinge in her nether regions!

I loved the light-hearted feel of the show and the banter was very easy between Tom and the Radio Northampton presenter, Annabel. Lynn came in for a bit of stick as she was described as "strident" but she took it all in good humour!

All finished!

When we'd finished and put everything into Ruth's garage I went home and had a well-earned breakfast of coffee and toast. I felt a bit weary but I joined Keith in our bedroom and between us we managed to get the walls and ceiling painted. We were so lucky with the weather as the rain poured down for most of the morning!

Keith and I toiled away until the early afternoon and put two coats of paint on the walls. The bedroom looks so much cleaner now! We cleared everything away and put things back before getting Mike from work and then relaxing. Dinner tonight was supposed to be beef casserole but we decided to have fish and chips instead. I think we deserved it!
