Re-living old times.

Day 121

This morning I went to see my old manager from Levi's, Mich, with my friend Lynda. Sadly, Mich's husband Pete had died in May and she was very lonely and also suffering a little with dementia, so it was great to go and see her and re-live the old times at work.

It's been 30 years since I first joined Levi's as a customer service representative and Mich was my immediate boss. She was (and still is) very motherly and we all adored her in our department. She said she will be 80 next year but she looked hardly any different from the last time I saw her many years ago.

We met her irritable little dog Dobbie who was going blind, so she barked whenever she heard us talking until she got used to our voices! It was lovely to sit in Mich's living room and have a good chat and look at some old photos that I'd found. Although she did ask us the same question a few times, she was fine holding a conversation and she remembered a lot from the old days.

When Lynda dropped me back at home she came in for a cup of tea and we sat chatting in the conservatory with Sophie. The weather today has been gorgeous - warm, dry and sunny - a perfect summer's day.

Sophie was dealt a bit of a bombshell this afternoon when she found out her company was merging with another, the parent company, apparently, that Sophie didn't even know about! They had a very brief meeting before work finished and although Sophie asked a question about where they might be based in the future, not an awful lot of information was divulged, which made her a bit mad. There are far too many changes happening this year for my liking!

We went out for a quick walk and took some carrots to feed the horses. They were much more friendly this evening (because of the carrots) and stayed for a while letting us pat and stroke them. The poor things were plagued with flies, though, so we didn't hang around for long. We walked around the estate and then it was home to help Keith with the barbecue for dinner. I made a salad and looked after the potatoes while he went outside and grilled the meat. I have to say that the burgers and marinated chicken from Beckworth were delicious and we will definitely buy them again when we barbecue!
