A spot of decorating...

Sophie had today off work and she was roped into helping us paint Michael's old room, bless her! I did heat up some pastries for breakfast first, though, and it was lovely to sit with her and have a coffee before we started.

Keith started on one side of the room with the roller while Sophie did the other, and I did the fiddly parts near the skirting boards and inside the windows. Outside, the weather was gorgeous, with clear blue skies and sunshine. Typical!

The first coat of paint always looks horrible and patchy, and today was no exception. We were using a very light grey called White Mist so I knew it would take a couple of coats, or more, to cover the existing taupe colour on the walls. Halfway through the morning, Sophie went to put a coat of metallic silver on the pine curtain pole, so we're hoping this will match the new picture frame.

We were getting in each other's way a lot in Michael's room, and it was hard work, so we were all glad when the first coat was on and we could have some lunch. Sophie and I had hummus with breadsticks and olives, and we decided to go to B&Q to get some more paint, and also look at fabrics at The Old Mill House to cover the headboard.

We arrived at about 3pm and found some lovely material that was on sale. We bought three metres and chatted to the staff who were very helpful and friendly. I have never covered a headboard before but it looked easy on a YouTube video, and the material wasn't expensive, so we'll give it a go! I'm just going to cover the existing material, and in B&Q we bought a staple gun and a staple remover as well as some more paint.

Before going home we popped into Aldi and bought some squirty cream and German biscuits to go with our hot chocolate. It was a gorgeous evening, with the sky a deep indigo blue behind the setting sun. Sophie made us hot chocolate laced with a tot of rum and we started on the shopping list for tomorrow. Keith cooked dinner of mince and dumplings, which was another successful meal and perfect for a chilly night!
