My lunch was still in the fridge from yesterday and I appreciated it more today! It was delicious! Later in the afternoon, I wrote some more of the moan report so it's steadily being done, even though we've asked for a week's extension to finish it!
It was lovely to escape at 4pm, go home and have a bath in readiness for my evening out to The Three Cranes in Turvey. Sophie tonged my hair for me, and I left to go and pick up my friends. Fiona had been dropped off at Lynda's house in Cogenhoe, which meant I didn't have to go into town - a definite bonus as she lives on a street with cars parked on each side and I took Olive! Meeting another car on this street is a real pain!
From Cogenhoe it was a straight run to Turvey on the A428 and we arrived at 7.30pm. A lovely, friendly member of staff showed us to our seats, tucked away in a corner away from the main area of the pub. We ordered drinks and I chose a 0% Rosé wine, which turned out to be far too sweet. We just can't get it right with non-alcoholic wine, can we?
After about ten minutes, Andrea arrived and there was the usual flurry of hugs and greetings. She ordered a G&T but within minutes of it arriving, Fiona had somehow managed to knock over her bottle of tonic and broke the glass! We had to call the waitress over again and ask for a fresh drink!
We eventually chose our meals and Fiona, Andrea and Lynda chose the Scandinavian Prawn Toast while I opted for the pork skewer served with a sweet chilli sauce and salad. All the starters were delicious and I ordered a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc to accompany the meal, which sparked a good discussion about Chardonnay, with Lynda and Andrea saying they hated the grape but loved Chablis... huh?
The talk never stopped and our main courses arrived. Unfortunately, Fiona had to send her meal back as she couldn't eat the potatoes and I did feel for our lovely waitress who was a paragon of patience with us! I, along with Andrea and Lynda, had chosen the coffee rub pork belly and it was delicious, served with mash and vegetables. It defeated me, though! Phew!
I didn't have any room for pudding, but Andrea and Fiona indulged in the banana and salted caramel meringue which looked very sweet and indulgent. Even though we had cut back tonight on what we normally indulge in, the bill still came to £184, plus the tip.
Andrea's partner, Clif, arrived to collect her, and we three emerged into a rainy night. The journey back was dark and wet, and I was mightily glad to get home and chat with Keith and Sophie. Sophie was sporting a cut right next to her eye where Gomez had clawed her when she was playing with him. She was extremely lucky he didn't get her eye!
It was gone 11pm by the time we'd made our weary way to bed. Thank goodness it's the weekend!
