We went as soon as we could to get it over with, and the supermarket was already heaving with people! It's Mother's Day next Sunday as well, so I bought everything I needed for my Mum, all of her toiletries and confectionery, and made a start on the shopping list we'd written this morning. My head was spinning! I hate shopping at the best of times, and the amount of choice just makes me confused!
By about 11.30am, we were heading to the care home to drop off Mum's shopping, and we saw my Dad sitting in the dining room on a table with a couple of other men. He looked at us as if he didn't recognise us! Mum was sitting on her own, so we stayed for a chat and then made our way home. We unpacked our shopping, put it away, and Sophie made a delicious lunch of ham sandwiches and salad.
Once lunch was out of the way, I made a start on tomorrow's meal - The Hairy Bikers' sausage casserole. Tonight, we'd decided to have leftovers as there was cottage pie lurking in the fridge, and the remains of our jerk chicken from yesterday that Keith refuses to eat.
I prepared vegetables for Keith's meal this evening, plus another four saucepans for tomorrow. I then browned the sausages, cooked the streaky bacon and onions (which smoked the house out!) and combined smoky paprika, Worcestershire sauce, tomato purée, mixed herbs, red wine, beef stock and tinned toms to add to the sausages and onions. I then let it cool down before popping it into the fridge to all combine together overnight.
By now, it was 4pm and time for a face mask and a short nap! I hope the face mask is working! My skin does feel a little smoother!
Downstairs, Sophie made herself a cucumber Martini, a concoction I didn't fancy at all! She muddled a chunk of cucumber and added vodka (I'm not sure if she added anything else as I wasn't paying attention), and it was very green! I had my usual G&T and I'd made the right choice as Sophie took one sip and then threw it down the sink! It must have been awful for Sophie to throw away vodka!
We played Scrabble, and my daughter beat me by over 100 points. We had to abandon the second game (when I was leading) to deal with dinner... hmmm!
After dinner, we decided to start watching The White Lotus and very quirky and intriguing it was, too!
