Back home, we had breakfast and watched Saturday Kitchen Live. Keith was all prepared for his hernia operation today, and we took him to the hospital at 12pm. It was a beautiful day, with the sun trying to break through the clouds and a real feel of Spring in the air.
We couldn't go with him to the ward, so we had to drop him off by the main car parks. It was horrible watching him go off by himself, but he's pleased the operation is being done and it will be a relief for him when it's over. Sophie and I drove to Jones's as we needed to get some essentials, one of them being a new medium-sized suitcase. I bought lots of bits and bobs for the house and we returned home.
Both of us were peckish by now so we baked a baguette in the oven and had a sandwich. We then cleaned downstairs and spent the rest of the afternoon pootling about. I kept expecting Keith to come home at any minute as I thought he had gone to see Sileby play!
By 6pm, we were wondering what to do about dinner. We hadn't heard anything from Keith but Sophie managed to get through to the hospital on the phone and they said he was in the recovery ward. We were none the wiser! How long had he been there? A little later, we managed to get through to a nurse (he was on Althorp ward) and she said that his blood pressure was a bit high and he wouldn't be allowed home until it had come down. We made the decision to cook dinner, which was my speciality - jerk chicken pasta. I'd already marinated the chicken so all we had to do was put that in the oven, prepare the ingredients for the sauce and cook the pasta. While the chicken was cooking, we played cards and Sophie thrashed me!
By 7.45pm, dinner was ready and Sophie was just about to cut up a garlic flatbread when my phone rang... it was Keith asking if we could pick him up! What impeccable timing! He told us to go ahead and eat, which we did, and then we drove to the hospital to pick him up.
Althorp ward was a long way away, with the last bit slightly uphill, and we were beginning to regret eating before picking him up! When we arrived on the ward, we chatted to a lovely nurse who said he was champing at the bit to go home! We made our way to his bed but he was already on his way to meet us, looking fetching in a tee-shirt, his blue shorts and long black surgical stockings! He couldn't wait to get home!
We walked the loooooong way back and drove thankfully home. I made myself a G&T and we settled Keith on the sofa to watch Would I Lie To You. Outside, it started to rain and then became so heavy the road outside began to flood! We had made it home just in time!
