First cut of the season

If anything, the weather was even more beautiful today and our plans to venture out into the garden and do some tidying up could go ahead. Sophie was seeing Daisy and Laura for a coffee this morning and when she left, Keith and I drove over to the care home so I could take Mum some much-needed moisturiser.  I stayed for a little while, but the lure of the garden was strong!

Keith made a start in the garden while I brewed myself another coffee and then I joined him. The grass was long and lush (in places) but threadbare in others so I'll need to invest in a box of grass seed to put down once the weather settles. Although it's forecast to be warm today, a cold north wind is coming next week. Brrrr!

We mowed the lawn, Keith strimmed the edges and I threw out some long-dead pansies that had perished in the winter frosts. Our garden bin filled up quickly and I learnt that to renew the bin collection - every two weeks - will be £60! As we hardly use it, that's one expense we will do without!

As well as working in the garden, we sat and enjoyed the sunshine for a little while. What a bonus to be able to do this when we're not even into double figures in March! Sophie texted me to say she and her friends had walked to The Brampton Halt pub for a drink with Laura's dog, Wilbur. No doubt they would be enjoying a drink sitting in the sun!

Once the garden had been tidied up, Keith and I pootled about and Sophie returned home at 2pm. She hadn't had anything to eat and was surprised that nothing had been done about lunch... I had assumed (wrongly) that she was going to Smith's Farm Shop for breakfast, but she hadn't had anything at all!

We intended to cook on the barbecue today, so we swung into action and by 3pm we were eating our late lunch. I don't think we've ever enjoyed a barbecue so early in the year so it was a real treat. After we'd eaten and cleared away, Sophie read her latest book while Keith watched football. I was content to add another month of 2015 to my Word document. Hopefully, I will be finished soon.

We had a relaxed evening and caught an episode of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire where two people threw away £15,000 on wrong guesses. Oh dear!
