Mixed feelings

Sophie and I had a relaxed start to the day and watched Saturday Morning Kitchen with a coffee. Outside, the wind grew stronger, and we were forecast to have 50mph winds. Phew! Sophie was travelling to Birmingham this afternoon and we hoped that the trains wouldn't be cancelled!

I didn't do a lot in the morning, and gave Sophie a lift to the station at midday. As she walked off, she put her coat over her head to shield herself from the rain, and it blew up like a cape with the gusts of wind! I drove home through flying leaves and made salad and ham sandwiches for lunch.

Keith was engrossed in the sport, so I went upstairs to attend to feminine tasks (foot care) before having a long, hot shower and then relaxing on the bed. I watched a mish-mash of programmes before going back downstairs to the computer and having a look at my family tree. I am constantly getting emails from the family tree websites I use, and I move them all to a folder to look at later. I had promised myself that I would spend some time on more research when the weather was bad, and today's Autumnal conditions were perfect!

I opened the emails that promised connections to my ancestors and got lost in the research for a couple of hours. Sophie texted me to say she was getting the 6pm train home, which was earlier than expected, and a bonus! Keith had already said he didn't fancy tonight's planned dinner of savoury crumble, so when I asked Sophie if she was hungry and fancied a Chinese, she jumped at the chance!

I left home at 6.30pm and drove to the station under gorgeous skies, which were a mixture of pinks, blues, greys and peaches with wispy clouds making the vista more interesting. I played BBC Radio 3 Unwind and felt very relaxed!

The station was busy with trains arriving and people collecting friends and family. When Sophie got in the car, she said she didn't know whether she'd enjoyed her afternoon or not... She'd spent the afternoon with a man she'd met back in 2022, and this was the second date. They'd been ten-pin bowling and out for a late lunch, but she had mixed feelings about him and wasn't sure whether she'd see him again. After their first date three years ago, they hadn't met again, so I'm not sure whether this will go the same way.

Sophie ordered the Chinese from the car, and we returned home to sit in the kitchen with Keith and have a good chat. Judging from the conversation, she seems to prefer being single at the moment!

We ate dinner and watched a couple of episodes of Gone Fishing and country music on BBC2. We had a late night tonight... we were up to almost midnight! Woohoo!
