Lights out...

Today marks the start of the First World War 100 years ago and at 10pm we turned out all the lights in our house and lit a candle. I feel very strongly that we should remember the events of the war and never forget how many lives were sacrificed. Both mine and Keith's family were affected - his Uncle died in France and his father took part but luckily came home.

My Great-Grandfather fought in the war and a cousin of mine is buried with my Great Great Grandparents in Stone cemetery in Kent. He was killed in action in 1918 in France.

We watched the coverage on the television which was very moving. I find it difficult to watrch anything about the First War without crying and when they sounded the Last Post, that was it. At 11pm we extinguished the candle and I thought how terrible it must have been for the country facing war like that, especially when they all thought it would be over for Christmas.

Let's hope we never see the like of it again.

Anyway...today has been pleasantly busy at work and the forecast is for unsettled weather for the rest of the week. I'm really hoping we will be a bit busier! After work Sophie and I headed off to the gym for the first time in ages. Sophie had a problem gaining access as the gym had finally caught up with the fact that she turned 18 in April...! We will have to look at her membership and decide if we really want to carry on as at the moment we're certainly not getting the full value every month.

We had a swim in the pool and then a relaxing time in the spa. It's this that I would miss the most, to be honest, but is it really worth paying almost £100 (for the two of us) for every month?
