A little tidying up

I had threatened to do nothing at all today, but I knew that was unlikely! After a decent lie-in, I made a banana baked porridge and we ate our breakfast watching yesterday's Saturday Kitchen. It was a great start to a relaxed day.

Sophie spent the morning preparing tonight's dinner of chicken and ham tangle pie, and I had a pampering session upstairs. We did loads of laundry, managing to get some of it outside to dry in the sunshine. I had thought we would get rain this Easter Sunday, but it's been beautiful all day.

As the weather was so lovely, I mowed the front verge and weeded the border before sweeping up a big boxful of dead leaves. I noticed, to my horror, that our BT manhole cover in the grass verge had moved, and the surrounding bricks and concrete had come away, leaving the installation underneath exposed. It was a tripping hazard, but it was also open to the elements. Lynn came past with Daphne dog, who accepted a lot of fuss and cuddles, and we had an enjoyable chat. I was so glad I'd tidied up the garden as it was looking a sorry mess!

Back inside, I contacted Openreach, and the woman I spoke to said an engineer would be out within four hours. We were all sceptical, but he arrived in three! I went out to speak to him, and he said he'd take photos, but that the actual repair would take a couple of weeks. We think it's down to vans driving over the manhole cover, and I wish I'd noticed it before. Our neighbour, who walks his dog regularly and passes by the manhole every day, could have said something as well!

Sophie and I played Scrabble before dinner, and it was a close game, with both of us neck and neck until the last few tiles were played, when she thrashed me! She then made dinner, and I cooked a tray of roast potatoes to accompany the delicious pie. It was a lovely meal with enough left over for tomorrow's dinner as well!

It's been a lovely day and very relaxed. But it's back to work tomorrow!
