I took myself to work because Keith didn't have to shop today, and faced over a hundred emails. I knew how many there were as I was able to check on my laptop, but what I didn't expect was Jaden to come in at 10am and then go home sick after half an hour. She kept disappearing, so I knew something was up, but it was a real blow when she said she had to go home.
Kathy and I knuckled down and answered the phones, and we had many, many calls about swimming lessons as well as emails streaming in. I was in no position to answer as many as I wanted, so they built up over the morning. Luckily, Denise took over in the afternoon so I could get on and whittle them down to the low nineties!
Our MD was in the office virtually all day, and I think he realised how busy we were and how much pressure we were under with the sheer volume of queries we were receiving. It's like some of the parents had woken up after a deep sleep, realised that the lessons had changed, and now wanted something done about it... now! At least when our esteemed leader left, he said thank you to us, which doesn't happen very often!
I worked until 5pm as I'm planning on leaving an hour early on Thursday to take my Mum for a blood test. I had an hour of peace to get as many emails answered as I could!
Back home, I had a chat with Vince and Sue, and I commiserated with them about their disappointing trip to London and Canterbury. I didn't dare say that Sophie and I had enjoyed our night at the Proms immensely!
Sophie arrived home shortly after me, and I could tell she'd also had a bad day. Later, over a drink, she told us about her day, and to be honest, I felt overwhelmed with all of her worries, so we didn't have the best of evenings. To make it worse, she had to cook the beef stroganoff we should have had last night!
So, we had a very subdued evening, but things were better by bedtime. She told me off for checking work emails at home, which I agreed with. From now on, 6pm is when we relax, maybe have a drink, some nibbles and play cards. It's definitely not a time to talk about work!
