To and fro, to and fro...

We took Sophie to work today because we both had an appointment at Kingsley beauty salon this afternoon for someone to deal with our unwanted hairy bits. Before Sophie started work, we had a coffee and a sausage bap at Café 900. For the first time ever visiting the café, I was unimpressed. The woman serving asked me twice what I wanted and gave me a buttered bap when I asked for one without. She then slathered brown sauce on my breakfast, which was overwhelming. Both Sophie and I ordered flat whites, which were so bitter I only took a couple of sips. Next time, we'll go to Costa Coffee around the corner!

Sophie staggered across the road laden down with the bottles of non-alcoholic Prosecco we bought last week at Waitrose, ready for a presentation later in the day. We bid her farewell and returned home, where I managed to get a lot of jobs accomplished on my list before I left to pick her up at 10.30am.

She had a cake to collect at a bakery in Kingsthorpe (for the same presentation) and as she didn't have her car with her, I volunteered to help. I arrived five minutes late due to having to travel on a diversion because of road surfacing taking place between Walgrave and Holcot, which is going on all week. This road had been resurfaced lately, and it was beautifully smooth and pothole-free. Now, they were going to be putting down a layer of what looked like gravel, which throws up dust when you drive on it, and spits up tiny stones. Grrr!

We drove to Kingsthorpe and I managed to park around the corner from the baker's. We gingerly collected the cake and Sophie held it on her lap on the way back, giving me strict instructions not to brake suddenly! I dropped her off and returned home, where I managed to do yet more chores; not a pleasant task in the heat!

At 3.30pm, I left home again and drove back to collect Sophie from work. The traffic on the other side of the dual carriageway was backed up, but we made it to the salon in good time. Sophie was dealt with first, and then it was my turn for an eyebrow shape and a half-leg wax. The eyebrow shape was fine, but the leg wax hurt like mad! I have certainly put myself through some uncomfortable ordeals this year!

We left and battled our way home, where it was bliss to relax and sip Aperol Spritzes made with a bottle of sparkling Vouvray. Dinner was an easy chicken traybake, and then we tried to keep cool by lying on the bed with the fan full on! Phew!
