At lunchtime, when Sophie returned, she made us delicious sandwiches stuffed with chicken, salad and cheese. Mike wandered downstairs and looked at them longingly, but as he'd had the remains of the Jerk chicken pasta for breakfast I didn't think he was ready for any lunch!
Sophie needed petrol so we drove into Northampton and, after filling up, she bought a tub of olives and ice creams in the M&S shop. We drove to her old university campus to enjoy our ice creams and to see what's been happening since it was demolished a couple of years ago. It's now unrecognisable as the campus she attended for three years, and there's not one building left so she felt pretty disorientated, bless her!
Back home we met Mike walking out to meet some friends (we had offered him an ice cream, but he'd declined) and then it was time to relax. I scanned some more photos onto the computer, and we had an early game of Scrabble. Sophie made us vodka Martinis and used some of the olives she'd bought earlier in her drink. I just enjoyed them as an accompaniment!
Mike came down and we all had a drink in the conservatory for the first game, but he joined us for the second game, and I won both! We were cutting it fine with the second game, as Keith had started to cook on the barbecue, but we hurriedly finished and set the table in between cooking some crispy potatoes and onions.
The meal went down very well and it was great for all of us to sit and eat together in the conservatory. He is going home tomorrow so the next time we see him will probably be Christmas!
