It's wheely not fun!

Today Mum and I drove down to Kent to take Nan into town to get her new glasses. We took her in a wheelchair and it was hard work! It's not until you have to use a wheelchair that you realise how difficult it is to get about. Pavements are uneven and shops don't have a lot of room to negotiate the wheelchair amongst the racks of clothes (Nan wanted some warm and comfy trousers).

Also, people tend to ignore the person in the wheelchair and talk to whoever is pushing it, a bit annoying in the Optician's when all the decisions had to be made by Nan. Anyway, she was delighted with her new spectacles (the colour matched the light purple rinse in her hair - very groovy!) and she bought some lovely new jogging pants to lounge about in at home that will be warm and soft against her skin.

After a quick trip to Sainsbury's for some essentials we went back to her flat and had a restorative cup of tea (and a biscuit - I'm finding dieting very difficult this week!). Our journey home was mostly good apart from the M1 near Luton which, despite the years of roadworks, still gets snarled up at around 6pm. We had to pick Sophie up from school as she was in late again but when I arrived I couldn't get her on her mobile. The area around the school was jammed with cars and all I wanted to do was get home and have a glass of wine, but we ended up waiting twenty minutes until she emerged from the 6th Form block, in a tizzy as she'd mislaid a folder. It was sheer bliss to get home at last, be handed a glass of Pinot Noir and relax!
