At about 11.30am, Sophie and I went into Northampton as she had an appointment at the beauty salon. She was in and out quickly and we drove to Kettering to visit Tesco. Mum had called earlier and said she needed some toiletries so we braced ourselves and went into the busy supermarket. It wouldn't have been my choice to go in so soon before Christmas!
I bought Mum and Dad a range of toiletry items, as well as chocolates and cakes, a bouquet of flowers for them, and a box of Ferrero Rocher. The weather outside was dreadful with squally rain and wind. Mum and Dad were sitting having their lunch when we arrived and I was annoyed to see that Mum wasn't using the special cutlery I'd bought her, to help with eating. When I asked where the set was, I was met with blank looks which annoyed me further. Sophie and I left everything we'd bought, including two pairs of new shoes I'd ordered for Mum, kissed them both goodbye and left. I am in definite need of a break!
The rain on the way home was torrential and it was lovely to get back home and pootle about. Sophie and I enjoyed the leftover soup from last night, with a slice of garlic flatbread and a small glass of wine from last night! I don't think we have ever not finished a bottle of wine on a Friday night!
Later in the afternoon, I went upstairs so Sophie could paint my toenails, and I caught the beginning of a hilarious film called What's Up, Doc starring the beautiful Barbra Streisand and the equally gorgeous Ryan O'Neal. It was a madcap film about confusion over four bags, set in San Francisco and it made me laugh out loud several times! Just what I needed this afternoon and I certainly felt more relaxed!
We spent the early evening sipping drinks (I had a G&T) and watched the end of the film we started last night. Sophie had prepared a delicious sausage casserole for dinner, and we watched the fourth Bourne film, The Bourne Legacy after we'd eaten.
I am now four days behind with my whiskies, so I'm taking them all to Mallorca to enjoy there! I opened every window, made a note of which whisky it was and packed them away in the suitcase!
We also burned our German advent candle down to the 21st today - it's the winter solstice!
