A spot of culture...

Keith and I managed a lie-in this morning and didn't wake up until 9am! I haven't done that for a while! Mike was already up, which was highly unusual, and wanted me to take him to Brixworth as soon as possible. One of his friends was starting work with him today and they were going to go in together.

Sophie and I took him to Brixworth and then drove over to my Mum and Dad's with our paste table. My Dad is decorating their cloakroom and wanted to use the table we'd originally bought for the garage sale back in May. We had a quick coffee with them and then sped home to get ready to go to the Althorp Literary Festival in the afternoon.

Luckily, as we had grounds passes, the weather was gorgeous with beautiful blue skies and plenty of sunshine. We parked in a grassy field and walked the short distance to the house. First up was a cup of tea and a sandwich and then we had a quick look around before finding the south drawing room where we were going to a presentation on Independent Publishing with Amazon's Kindle.

Although there were lots of authors at the festival, I didn't really fancy seeing any of them so we had just booked for the free presentation. It was very informative and three authors who had taken the route of publishing independently were also there to tell us their experience of the process. One author had sold over a million books! And although they had all published their novels on e-readers, they had also sold them as hardback books as well. I was very impressed!

After the presentation we had a lovely chat with a man who runs falconry displays. He had an American Bald Eagle with him which was enormous! At first the bird was wearing a hood over his head but after he'd flown him, the hood came off and we could see his lovely intelligent face. He kept flapping his wings and they brushed the top of my head!

We decided to go and have a delicious ice-cream sundae at Gallone's in Kingsthorpe and took the scenic route, which was lovely. Back home we relaxed in the conservatory until it was time to collect Mike from Brixworth at 7pm, slightly later than normal as he'd walked back to his mate's house after work.

Dinner tonight was pulled pork which had been cooking slowly in the oven all day. It was delicious!
