After a lazy morning (and a lie-in for once!) Sophie and I went to Market Harborough to do some shopping at midday. Sophie was a bit quiet because of her delayed trip but lunch in Pizza Express soon cheered her up. We started with garlicky dough balls and shared a pizza for a main course. With a glass of Pinot Grigio each the bill only came to £28! The restaurant was really busy but there was a great atmosphere and we enjoyed our lunch tremendously! Maybe it's something we will do again, as a treat!
We had a mooch about the shops and Sophie bought a new top, some perfume and a cute little headband in New Look. I tried to get her to buy some sensible boots with a better grip on the sole but she resisted. I admitted to her that I was worried about the boots and shoes she was taking as on the news this morning the snow was very deep indeed and was starting to look as if it was the worst snowstorm the East Coast of the US had ever experienced. Her footwear was totally inadequate!
At my urging we went into Mountain Warehouse and I asked one of the sales assistants whether they had anything she could put on the soles of her shoes to give her some more grip in the snow. They only had extra soles that fitted onto proper walking boots, but I spotted some snow boots in the sale and although Sophie tried a pair on she wasn't convinced!
We went home in a bit of a mood and Sophie was a little stressed about the weather in New York and the fact that her flight could well be cancelled again tomorrow. Back home she sent a message to her friends who were on the trip and guess what? They had all gone out and bought more robust footwear!
We got back in the car again and drove to Brantano where I bought her a pair of snowboots that she said were extremely comfortable and even looked acceptable! She said she would wear them to travel in and I have a feeling she secretly loved them to bits! I was very relieved!
We had a very pleasant evening and Keith cooked a delicious roast chicken for dinner. Sophie's flight on Sunday morning was delayed but that was only to be expected in the circumstances!
