Birthday girl!

We awoke to thick fog this morning, and it has hardly lifted all day. It was my birthday, so first thing I opened my presents and cards from Keith and Sophie. Keith had bought me a bottle of Chivas Regal which will make an ideal base for several cocktails! Sophie had put together a lovely little treat bag with some gorgeous cosy socks, face masks and scented candles! Perfect!

We sat and watched Saturday Kitchen in its entirety, and we both thought that Elvis Costello was rude, as he hardly ate any of the delicious food prepared for him! He looked thoroughly bored and we suspect he was made to go on the show to promote his latest album!

At lunchtime, we made our way through the thick fog to Market Harborough. We were lucky and managed to get a table at Miller's cafe where we ordered toasted chicken, mozzarella and pesto sandwiches with coffee and tea. We managed to squeeze in a slice of cake afterwards, and the treat was on Sophie!

The other day, when Keith and I had visited Market Harborough, we had noticed three more charity shops so we made sure we visited them today! Sophie found some gorgeous white boots, a pretty summer dress and a couple of tops, so she did very well!

By 3pm we were both ready to go home and get cosy as was very cold. Before returning, though, we popped to Waitrose to buy a bottle of Angostura Bitters for the cocktails we were planning later, either Old Fashioneds or Manhattans!

Outside of Market Harborough, the fog was still hanging about and it was great to get home and relax. Keith was out at a football match watching Sileby and a beautiful bouquet of flowers had arrived from my Mum and Dad, along with a small box of chocolates! Sophie put the hoover around downstairs (Monty had been sick on the living room carpet) and when Keith came home and turned on the football at 5.30pm it was time for Scrabble and cocktails!

Sophie made us Manhattans - whisky, red vermouth, Angostura bitters and a cherry - and they were divine, and really too delicious, as we had two! Things were certainly a little merry in our household this evening! We ordered a Chinese takeaway, and although they didn't bring our chicken chow mein, we still had enough food and the meal was lovely.

It has been a perfect day and much better that we're not in lockdown this year!
