We awoke to a beautiful day today and I was determined to get out and enjoy the sunshine. Keith and I went to get the newspaper and managed to come across numerous cyclists, horse-riders and a huge tractor on the route! The weather had obviously encouraged everyone to venture out after the horrible day we had yesterday!
Back home I decided to wash both the cars as they were filthy (especially Sophie's as we'd taken a narrow, very muddy road on the way home to avoid sitting behind the tractor!) and it was lovely to get some fresh air.
When I finished Sophie and I prepared Banana Creme Brulee from the Hairy Bikers' book and we were a bit nervous as they warned us about the custard splitting... We cut up the bananas and fried them in sugar and then warmed up some brandy and set light to it, before pouring it over the fruit with it still alight!
We then made the custard by heating up some double cream and adding a vanilla pod. We let it infuse for ten minutes and added six egg yolks and more sugar. We then had to heat it until it thickened up but with the warning not to stop stirring. We did everything we should have done, but unfortunately, the custard still split, which was a shame. We whisked like mad, but the eggs looked like they had curdled. We still poured the custard over the bananas in the ramekins and left them to set but I was very disappointed.
I went to have a bath and while I was languishing in the hot water, Sue called and asked us to go around as she had some clothes to show Sophie before she sold them. I dressed hurriedly and we went over to have a look at some lovely dresses and tops that Sophie could wear to work.
We had a chat with her and then did a round of the estate with Monty who was not at all interested in going for a walk with us and ducked out half way through!
It was bliss to get home and curl up on the sofa in the warm while Keith cooked dinner. I indulged in The Good Life Christmas special and enjoyed a drink or two!
